    Murphy Beds-A History Lesson About Murphy Beds

    Murphy beds were originally invented over a one-hundred ago by William Murphy, and this new creation quickly became popular at the turn of the century, especially in urban areas where excess space was limited. Traditional Murphy Beds or Wall Beds fold up to the wall and attempt to hide the mattress which can waste valuable floor space.

    He lived in a one-room apartment that had a standard bed taking up most of the floor space. Because he wanted to entertain, he began experimenting with a folding bed, and applied for his first patent around 1900. The first of the folding beds were manufactured in San Francisco. This patented design gave the bed mechanisms dependability and ease of operation.

    Wall beds or Murphy beds look like beautiful furniture by day, but this versatile bedroom furniture quickly and easily turns into a useful space saver that brings rest and comfort when the day is through.
