We've always been lectured about how to save energy and about saving the environment.  In today's world, everyone is affected by our rapid energy consumption and rising energy costs.  Coupled with a recession, we're more avid than ever to save energy to save money in part with the environment.  It is relatively easy to do this and we do not even have to switch our lifestyles that much, if at all.

How can you save power at home?

Computer: We always leave our monitors on even when we're not using them.  It takes only a second to turn it back on, so even if you're gone for a minute turn the monitor off to save energy and more importantly save money!

Light bulbs:  Compact fluorescent light (CFL) are a great breakthrough in light bulb technology.  This source of light gives plenty of bright light for us to see but does not use nearly as much energy as an incandescent bulb.  There is a reason massive department stores use these bulbs and not incandescent, it's because it saves an enormous amount of cash and is great for conserving energy for the environment.

Air Conditioner: Probably the most notorious for wasting your money.  If you live in a warm climate, never set your A/C under 70 degrees.  Every degree under that costs an extra 10% in your energy bill and you won't even feel the difference.  If you live in a cold climate, consider buying blankets to stay warm so you do not have to rely on the heater so much.  You can save a great deal right here.

Washing Machines: The washing machine not only uses water, it uses a massive amount of electricity.  Only do the laundry when you have a full load to conserve water and electricity.  You can save plenty of money by clustering the amount of loads you put into the washing machine 

Television: Sure, it may not look like a huge electricity waster, but its just like your monitor for the computer.  Turn it off when you're not using it and you'll easily be on your way to saving money.

Refrigerator: Refrigerators can waste a lot of power and of course money.  One thing you can do to save money is to leave hot foods outside to bring them down to room temperature and leave cold foods outside to heat up to room temperature for cooking them.

Car: Hybrids are becoming a great investment.  There are also many cars coming out that get over 30 MPG.  Additionally, roll up your windows before you put on your air conditioning.
